DISC, 4 basic types of human personality

This is an article that I wrote during 28th July 2011.
I decided to copy it here and  add some new elaborations.

DISC, 4 basic types of human personality:

1) D -- Dominance
Dominant type.
Good at leading and giving orders, dare to take risks.
Sometimes they can be argumentative, and not listen to other people's opinion.
They always talked the most and lead in conversations.

Actually,
I seldom see D type people at share market.
Maybe because they tend to be in control of situation,
while in share market they have no control of the company invested and no control of share price,
unless large shareholders.

Based on my own experience,
I saw D type people went to AGM to quarrel with company chairman and CEO because they don't like certain decisions of the management team.

Nevertheless,
D type people likes to focus on future and the bigger picture,
and they dare to take risks.
The return of their investments will be very high if they chose the right share.

2) I -- Influence
Influential type.
they are outgoing and like to be with people,
easily adapted to new place with a lot of strangers.
However their time management might not be good enough,
and don't like works with high complexity and high repetitive.
when in a group of people,
they tend to be center of attraction and have positive sense of humor.

Based on what I saw in share market,
I type people invest by following their feelings.
Buy because feel like will rise.
Sell because feel like will drop.
Everything by feelings.
Usually they tend concentrate investment into a few stocks only,
or even dare to ALL IN at only one stock.

If they chose the wrong stock, then bye bye~
However my friend who is a I type person,
earned a huge amount of money by ALL IN at one stock only.

3) C -- Compliance
Compliant type.
They emphasis on principle, do things accurately, focus on logic and numbers.
However,
they are not good at presenting themselves.
Usually too passive in a group....

Based on what I saw,
a C type person before making any investment decision,
they tends to read through a bunches of information and reports,
did researches and analysis, wrote down a lot of notes,
very hardworking.

4) S -- Steadiness
Steady type.
they emphasis on being steady and stable, even-tempered and sympathetic with others,
a loyal follower in a group.
However,
they are slow in decision making and tend to be passive.
Usually in a conversation,
they tend to be listener.

Since S type person tend to be a follower,
so they will have a thinking like:"Just let the management of the company settle everything!" when they invest in a company.

I am a S type person.
Since I look for stability, so I bought into those steady companies.
I am loyal too, after buying into a company,
I am able to hold it for many years,
so suitable to be a long term investor.

That's all for the 4 basic types of human personality.
Of course a short article like this is not enough to cover everything,
feel free to research more if you are interested at it.

The reason why I wrote this article is because I personally think that in investment,
before study a company,
is better to study yourself.

By knowing which type of personality you have,
then you will know which investment method is best for you.

Sometimes,
the problem is not picking a good timing, or good company, or good entry price,
the problem is.........
are you a good investor?

Knowing about yourself,
is one of the steps to be a good investor.

2)I -- Influence

3) C -- Conscientious

4) S -- Steadiness

Year 2017:The consequence of long term investing.....................

I written this article 2 years ago at the investment forum,
and then I update it at end of October every year.

Why did I write this article last time?

This is because 2 years ago at the investment forum,
someone with username "saingkee5151" posted an thread with the title "Long term investment, 10 years strategy!!".
(the thread title is directly translated from mandarin so......... -_-)

Anyway,
at that time I felt like post something at that thread too.
However I started investing at year 2011 and it was year 2015 that time.
People talked about 10 years, my investment experience only around half of 10years,
so I felt like I am not qualified to say anything at that thread..........

I was curious though.
Those shares that I bought at my early time and hold it until now,
how much returns were they?

So I started to record:
(based on closing price of 27th October 2017, I only record those shares that I bought and still holding them until now.)

1st,
is the shares I bought at year 2014:

LPI。
Today closing price:RM18.24
Lowest price bought at that year :RM11.24 (adjusted with bonus issue)
Return (excluding dividends ):62.3%
Dividend (according to payment date):

2015 : 36.7sen+20sen
2016 : 50sen +25sen
2017 : 55sen + 27sen
Total dividend :RM2.27
RM18.24+RM2.27 = RM20.51 (Total return is 82.5%)
If I used 1millions to buy in that time,
it will grows into 1.825millions now.
If leverage, easily 2millions.
If dare to maximize leverage, can reach 3millions.

Then, the shares that I bought at 2012:

AEONCR.
Today closing price:RM13.94
Lowest price bought at that year :RM5.58  (adjusted after 2 times bonus issues )
Return (excluding dividends ):149.8%
Dividend (according to payment date):
2012 : 9.3sen+10.7sen
2013 : 13sen + 14.9sen
2014 : 16sen+18.3sen
2015 : 19.7sen+19.9sen
2016 : 19.7sen +20.3sen
2017 : 21.7sen
Total dividend :RM1.835
RM13.94+RM1.835 = RM15.775 (Total return is 182.7%)
If I used 1millions to buy in that time,
it will grows into 2.827millions now.
If leverage, easily 4millions.
If dare to maximize leverage, can reach 5millions.

Lastly, those shares that I bought at year 2011:

PANAMY.
Today closing price:RM39
Lowest price bought at that year :RM17.50

2015 : 15sen+127sen
2016 : 15sen+124sen
2017 : 15sen+102sen
Total dividend :RM7.415
RM39+RM7.415 = RM46.415 (Total return is 165.2%)
If I used 1millions to buy in that time,
it will grows into 2.625millions now.
If leverage, easily 3millions.
If dare to maximize leverage, can reach 4millions.

PBBANK.
Today closing price:RM20.48
Lowest price bought at that year :RM12.68
Return (excluding dividends )):61.5%
Dividend (according to payment date):
2011 : 20sen + 28sen
2012 : 20sen + 30sen

RM87+RM14.60 = RM101.60(Total return is 113.4%)
If I used 1millions to buy in that time,
it will grows into 2.134millions now.
If leverage, easily 3millions.
If dare to maximize leverage, can reach 4millions.

AEON
Today closing price:RM2.05
Lowest price bought at that year :RM1.4425

Dividend (according to payment date):
2011 : 37.5sen

If I used 1millions to buy in that time,
it will grows into 4.007millions now.
If leverage, easily 6millions.
If dare to maximize leverage, can reach 8millions.

Everytime after finishing this,
I always feel wasted that if only I have 1 million at year 2011.....
but at that time my investment capital was not even 5 figures..........

Anyway,
this year is already my 7th year of long term investing,
and I will still apply this same strategy.

I will update this article next year October~

LPI。
今天闭市价:RM18.24
2014 : 13.3sen
2015 : 36.7sen+20sen
2016 : 50sen +25sen
2017 : 55sen + 27sen
总股息:RM2.27
RM18.24+RM2.27 = RM20.51 (总回酬为82.5%)

AEONCR.
今天闭市价:RM13.94
2012 : 9.3sen+10.7sen
2013 : 13sen + 14.9sen
2014 : 16sen+18.3sen
2015 : 19.7sen+19.9sen
2016 : 19.7sen +20.3sen
2017 : 21.7sen
总股息:RM1.835
RM13.94+RM1.835 = RM15.775 (总回酬为182.7%)

PANAMY.
2012 : 11.25sen+78.75sen
2013 : 11.25sen+173sen
2014 : 11.25sen+58sen
2015 : 15sen+127sen
2016 : 15sen+124sen
2017 : 15sen+102sen
总股息:RM7.415
RM39+RM7.415 = RM46.415 (总回酬为165.2%)

PBBANK.
今天闭市价:RM20.48
2011 : 20sen + 28sen
2012 : 20sen + 30sen
2013 : 22sen + 30sen
2014 : 23sen + 31sen
2015 : 24sen + 32sen
2016 : 26sen + 32sen
2017 : 27sen
总股息:RM3.45
RM20.48+RM3.45 = RM23.93 (总回酬为88.7%)

NESTLE.
2011 : 55sen
2012 : 125+55sen
2013 : 155+60sen
2014 : 175+60sen
2015 : 175+65+65sen
2016 : 130+70+70sen
2017 : 130+70sen
总股息:RM14.60
RM87+RM14.60 = RM101.60(总回酬为113.4%)

AEON
今天闭市价:RM2.05
2011年最低买入价:RM1.4425
2011 : 4sen
2012 : 4.75sen
2013 : 6sen
2014 : 5.5sen
2015 : 5sen
2016 : 4sen
2017 : 3sen
总股息:RM0.3225
RM2.05+RM0.3225 = RM2.3725(总回酬为64.5%)

DLADY
今天闭市价:RM60.02
2011 : 37.5sen
2012 : 130+130sen
2013 : 130+130sen
2014 : 110+110sen
2015 : 110+110sen
2016 : 110+110sen
2017 : 110+60sen
总股息:RM13.875
RM60.02+RM13.875 = RM73.895(总回酬为300.7%)

Public Bank 3rd quarter financial result

Public Bank 3rd quarter financial result has been released at today(26th October).
Even though I am just mini shareholder which as small as bacteria....
Once the result is out,
I straight away download the financial report from Bursa website.

When opening the report,
I am feeling calm and don't feel anxious at all,
as stable as the financial result as Public Bank:

Unexpectedly,
the third quarter profit actually grew a lot if comparing with 3rd quarter last year.

I always emphasized the Profit Before Tax by segment whenever I am reading the financial report of Public Bank:

We can see that most of the segments had good growth in profit.
Some segments didn't perform well,
but overall is not that significance.
This quarter result is really good.

The profit grew by RM399, 114, 000 which RM58, 277, 000 were from overseas operations.
Even though oversea operations only took 9.8% from total profit,
but contributed 14.6% of the profit growth~

Lastly:

Global economic expansion is expected to continue,
recovery in euro area,
growth-focused policies in China,
emerging economies are expected to benefit from strong external demand and sustained domestic activies.

Oh wow.....
It has been a long time since the prospects of Public Bank is written so positively.

What caught my attention the most,
is the last sentence from the 2nd paragraph:
“Malaysia's exports will continue to benefit from the improvement in global demand.”
I feel like my decision of emphasizing more on local companies which have export markets is being supported~

Hehe,
anyway I am satisfied with this quarter result,
Public bank please continue to perform well, fighting!!

I don't provide any buying/selling suggestion above,
please make your own investment decision and be responsible with it.

Profit Before Tax by segment:

“Malaysia's exports will continue to benefit from the improvement in global demand.”

My opinion about oversea market

One of the biggest changes in my investment portfolio at year 2017,
is that I sold all my DLADY, leaving only 1 lot for souvenir? purpose,
and bought into COCOLAND.

The reason is because I started to emphasis more on oversea market.

For the past few years,
the revenue and profit of PBBANK & DLADY didn't grow very well,
(well.... DLADY did rise to RM60 for don't know what reason.........)
especially after the implementation of GST,
AEON is falling like snowslide.......

However if we look at those companies that selling to oversea market,
since the exchange rate between RM to USD dropped so much,
those companies rose a lot in profit,
and the share price also doubled one by one.
And me.....
I can only sitting at the corner and drown by jealousy.....

So starting this year July,
I again searched at the market while having long holiday.
(I have to admit that I did neglect my investment since I was too focus on my job income, )

What I searching now,
are local companies that selling to oversea markets.
are local companies that selling to oversea markets.
are local companies that selling to oversea markets.
Important things need to write 3 times~

Why is it that must be local company?

Well.....
sometimes the parent company of the foreign company that we invested,
might suddenly restructure,
originally company A produces product A, company B produces product B,
suddenly become company A produces product B and company B produces product A.

If the luck is good,
more products are entrusted to the company that we investing,
then woohoo~

But if the luck is bad,
the company that we investing suddenly has less products to produce,
then you can do nothing but seeing the export revenue keep dropping.

I experienced it before,
so I think that if really want to enjoy the growth of oversea market,
then please choose local company!
Choose local company!
Local company!

After reading annual reports of roughly 20 companies,
my 1st pick was COCOLAND.

According to annual report of COCOLAND,
oversea market will be their next growth engine.
Since F&N is one of the large shareholder of COCOLAND,
I am more comfortable to invest and hold it.

Except COCOLAND,
there are some other companies that I having interest at,
please stay tuned at this blog to find out more in the future.

Right now I will do some revisions about the growth of oversea markets of companies that I investing currently:

1st,
AEONCR and LPI have no oversea market,
but since there is still some growth at local market,
so I will continue to hold them.

NESTLE and PANAMY are foreign companies that export to oversea market,
like I said before,
I don't put much hope at the growth of their export market,
is just that they both have good branding,
so I will continue to hold them.

Next is PBBANK...........
Some people said that PBBANK only do local market,
Some people think that PBBANK do has oversea market,
but the contribution to profit is not obvious.

What I saw is.....
the oversea market of PBBANK keep growing,
last time it only took up 3% of total PBT,
but now is already 10% of it!

Will oversea market become PBBANK next growth engine??

Then here comes F&N.

Actually F&N is doing worse and worse at local market,
luckily they have good growth at oversea market,
if not they are doomed.

Last one is COCOLAND.

Like the annual report mentioned before,
oversea market for example like South Korea will be COCOLAND next growth engine.

When I went to South Korea at end of August,
an old Korean man sitting next next to me gifted me a sweet,
which is actually COCOLAND's product.
I also met some Malaysians at South Korea,
they brought lot100 candies as gifts for Korean people,
they said Korean people like it.........

However,
I went to some shopping malls, convenient shops, snack specialty shops at Korea.
I saw coffee of certain company and snack of certain company,

Is COCOLAND really doing well at South Korea like what it was mentioned in the annual report?

No matter how,
continue on I will observe carefully,
hold carefully,
carefully buy into those local companies that having export market.

Handling investment with ease

Lately I have been reading a book <<I Decided To Look Down On Life >>.
(I translated the book name directly, so might not be the exact name....)
The author of the book thinks that the world can be handled easily,
and I do agree.

For example,
our basic 4 necessities "clothes, food, stay, transport" all can be handled easily.
Somehow,
people living a suffered life is because they chasing for branded clothes, eating at luxurious restaurants, buying big houses, buying luxurious cars.

Listen,
I am not telling everyone to stop going after those things and be stingy.
This is because when we have something to go after,
only we will try to improve ourselves.

It is just that sometimes..........
when we feel like living at this world is suffering,
perhaps we can change our minds to think that everything can be handled easily?
Isn't it better to go after something because WE WANT TO BE BETTER,
not because of suffering?

I think we went too far......

Back to investment,
I think the investment can be handled with ease as well.

Whenever I told someone I invest,
most of the people will start to imagine that I wearing thick specs,
sitting in front of computer all day long,
keep staring at the share price's movement on the screen,
read a lot of charts and reports which is hard to understand,
and think that investment is hard.

Actually,
I invested for almost 7 years,
and I never think the investment is hard and suffering.
Instead, is easy and relaxing.

Maybe is because of the way how I did my investment~

What I did at everyday except weekend,
I will just open the screen at the morning to see the share price,
just in case there is any bargain,
also to make sure that I won't forget my password to log in.
All this only took me 5 minutes.

After the market closed,
I will check the Top Gainer and Top Loser lists.
Since most of the shares I investing having double digit share price,
usually a bit of changes also enabled them to be in the list.
All this only took me another 5 minutes.

Totally is just 10 minutes per day.

When the companies I invest or having interest at release the quarterly financial reports and annual reports,
I will download and read it.
Sometimes I will go to shopping mall nearby,
to do "field check" and to see is there any new products offered.

That's all I did for my investment for the pass years.

Of course I am not saying that you must follow my way.
NO NO NO~

It is just that......
whenever you feel that the investment is hard and want to give up,
just think again....
is it really hard?
Or actually investment can be handled with ease?

一点上下就会进Top Gainer/Loser list里。

My investment result for year 2011

Today originally I wanted to transfer one of my old article to here.
When I opened my thread at the forum,
the 1st article I saw is about my investment portfolio at that time.

After some thinking,
I decided not to transfer the article.
Instead,
I will write an article about the comparison of my investment portfolio at the start and the end of year 2011.

According to my old article,
During year 2011 April 13rd (3 months after I started investment),
my portfolio:
1)AEON
2)TWS
3)CMMT
4)TEXCYCLE

At 2011 December 31st, my portfolio:
1)AEON
2)DLADY
3)F&N
4)NESTLE
5)PANAMY
6)PBBANK

My investment return of that year is 28%.
All thanks to:
AEON surged to RM7.24 from RM5-RM6.
PANAMY surged to RM20.04 from around RM17.
NESTLE surged to RM56 from around RM47.
DLADY surged to RM23.40 from around RM18.

As shown above,
the companies in my portfolio totally changed except AEON.

There are two main reasons why I changed.

1st,
I am not shy anymore.

At that time,
DLADY, PANAMY, NESTLE share price are all double digit.
Whenever I saw it,
"Oh my god, so expensive, I can't afford it."
I shied away...

What happened is I conquered my shyness,
tried to read the annual reports of those "expensive"companies,
and I understood that:

"Is better to pay RM100 for a diamond than paying RM1 for 10 stones."

Luckily there was a small bear market during 2011,
so it provided me a good timing to buy those good companies.

2nd,
I decided that instead of trying to grow my investment capital by achieving high returns at stock market,
is more efficient to grow it by my salary income.

I graduated from UPM that year,
and my investment captail is just less than 5 digit figures,
ROE of 30%?
I can get the same amount of money by working for 2-3 months.

Therefore,
I decided to find a job that can allowed me to save at least RM2000-RM4000 per month.
In order to do this,
I need to focus more on my job.
I bought those good companies,
so that I don't need to spend a lot of times on share market.

All thanks to teachers and friends that I met during year 2011.
They helped me opened my eyes and saw a different world,
that is how I constructed my investment style till now...

1)AEON
2)TWS
3)CMMT
4)TEXCYCLE

1)AEON
2)DLADY
3)F&N
4)NESTLE
5)PANAMY
6)PBBANK

My current investment portfolio

Writing down my current investment portfolio while opening my new blog.

A senior in investment said :

"By looking at someone's investment portfolio, you will be able to find out his/her personality."

So,

let me show my personality here:

1)AEONCR (31.3%)
2)NESTLE (22%)
3)LPI (18.1%)
4)PANAMY (14.9%)
5)PBBANK (5.3%)
6)DLADY (3.9%)
7)COCOLAND (2.9%)
8)F&N (1.6%)

My three main investments are the Growth of AEONCR,
the Stability of NESTLE ,
the Dividend of LPI.

My investment return from 2017 January 1st until now October 14th:
ROA = 19.7% (if taking margin amounts as cost)
ROE = 31.9% (if don't take margin amounts as cost)

Even though with this return, my investment capital only grew about 5% since the start of 2017.
But the good thing is,
I reduced 30% of my margin financing amount.

This is because my target of this year is to DE-LEVERAGE.
In another words,
I used the money earned to pay back my margin financing.

Currently 25% of my investment capital were the exact money that I put into share market,
another 25% were from margin financing,
and the rest 50% were the profits I accumulated all these years.

To make it simple,
for example if currently my investment capital is RM100,000.
RM25,000 are the money I earned and put into share market,
another RM25,000 are the money I borrowed from margin financing,
and the rest RM50,000 are the profit I accumulated all these years.

Is kind of wasted that I did take out some of my profits to reward myself,
if not the growth of my investment capital will be much higher.

Hereby I also write down my investment return for the past years:

2011 :   ROE = +28.0%
2012 :   ROE = +31.8%
2013 :   ROE = +15.0%  , ROA = +13.3%(started using SMF)
2014 :   ROE = -12.0%   , ROA =   - 8.0%
2015 :   ROE = +21.6%  , ROA = +13.3%
2016 :   ROE = +38.0%  , ROA = +22.2%
2017 :   ROE = +31.9%  , ROA = +19.7%(until 14th October)

If I have RM1,000,000 at the start of year 2011,

after investing for 6 years plus 10 months plus 14 days,
it will grows into around RM3,779,000.
Annual compound interest is around 20.9%.
(a lot better than EPF~)

From now on,

I will update my investment portfolio every quarter,
at the same time I will review my past buying and selling records.
I will transfer some of the old articles I wrote before,
but I not sure I will translate those articles to english or not.......

Last sentence......

I believe my personality is shown right?

ROA = 19.7%  (如果把马金当作本钱来看待。)
ROE =  31.9%  (如果不把马金当作本钱。)

2011 :   ROE = +28.0%
2012 :   ROE = +31.8%
2013 :   ROE = +15.0%  , ROA = +13.3%(开始使用马金了)
2014 :   ROE = -12.0%   , ROA =   - 8.0%
2015 :   ROE = +21.6%  , ROA = +13.3%
2016 :   ROE = +38.0%  , ROA = +22.2%
2017 :   ROE = +31.9%  , ROA = +19.7%(到10月14日为止)

1st post is always self-introduction

I invested at Malaysia share market for almost 7 years.
All this while,
I have been using The Cellist as my nickname in a local investment online forum for almost 7 years,
and I posted some articles at that forum as well.

However,
as time goes by,
I realized that the forum mentioned above has less and less viewers.
I worry that the forum might closed down,
and I will have no place to write down my investment articles for the future,
also scare that all my written articles might disappear,
so I decided to open my own blog.

I will briefly write down my past investment experiences here:

At 2011,
while I am finishing my final semester at local university UPM,
I stepped into Malaysia share market and started my investment with capital less than 5 figures(Ringgit Malaysia).

At 2012,
I learned how to leverage by using SMF,
so my investment capital grew into 6 figures.

At 2013,
I doubled my investment capital.
By having that kind of amount of capital at my young age,
I started to become overconfident aka cocky.

At 2014,
I faced a small bear market and lost 25% of my investment capital.
A slump for me.

At 2015,
I rose back and grew my investment capital back to the level during 2013.

At 2016,
My investment capital grew another 50%.
1st time in my life that what I earned from investment is more than what I earned from my job.

At 2017,
I still inside the share market.....

From now on,
I will write down anything regarding to my investment here.
However, I am a long term investor,
so there might not be a lot of things I can write down.
Hopefully I can write one article per week.

Also,
I will write down my opinion on my past investment decisions,
and transfer some of the articles I wrote at the forum mentioned to here as well.
Those articles are all in mandarin,
so I might or might not translate it into english.

That's all for today.
